  1. A Japanese rice lager is where most of us begin our #beerandsushi pairings. When it’s time for you to branch out, start with a lager from Sleepy Dog Brewery. The Feisty Chihuahua (4.9% ABV) substitutes nicely and will safely transport your taste buds to umami country, the 5th taste category.
  2. Pilsner works across the board with sushi. Try the American Pilsner (5% ABV) from Grand Canyon Brewing Co. and you’ll discover a light, bitter hoppiness that compliments the umami of Karma’s sushi menu.
  3. A full-fledged IPA and our most popular beer on tap is the Mother Road ‘Tower Station’ IPA (7.3% ABV). The robust bitterness and hops pair with cheese, ramen, and sashimi especially well. Test it out with our signature Karma Roll and explore from there.
  4. New to Flagstaff and our tap list is Mr. Beer-Boto (8.1% ABV) a black IPA from Rickety Cricket Brewing. While most black IPA beers are paired off with the stronger flavors of BBQ, there is a delicate range here that should not be overlooked including smoked cheeses and fish. Think teriyaki salmon, beef ramen, and any of our sushi with cheese.
  5. A white Ale matches with shellfish to create a strong pairing that even the most discerning palate will find pleasing. Karma’s menu includes fresh oysters, crab, and lobster as well as the White Ale from Four Peaks Brewing (5.4% ABV).
  6. A farmhouse Aleis complex, with lots of spicy notes and a medium bitterness. This versatility includes fruit, citrus, and spice, pairing with both fish and shellfish. Karma’s heartier cuts, like the Ahi Tataki and Albacore, go nicely alongside the 928 Local (8% ABV) by Wanderlust Brewing Co.
  7. The Porter is a malty, hoppy balance that easily competes with the fatty richness of a burger. Yes, there’s something on the Karma menu for everyone, even the non-sushi fan. The Pie Hole Porter (5.5% ABV) from Historic Brewing stands tall with the rich umami of wagyu beef after it’s been charred, caramelized, and paired with stone ground wasabi mustard.
  8. The Railhead Red (5.8% ABV) from Lumberyard is brewed across the street from us (literally!) this Amber Ale doesn’t just balance, it emphasizes spicy foods like our Mucho Midori, a green chile ramen that is easily the most popular ramen on our menu.
